Robots can take many forms, and a lot of time, money, and energy is spent on making robot faces look more and more lifelike. One robot focuses on the other end of the body. It may be the butt of many jokes, but the butt-shaped robot may be responsible for your phone surviving its next trip in your back pocket.
Phones have to be engineered to guard against drops, spills, and all sorts of accidents. One of the most stressful things for a phone to endure is being sat upon. That’s why Samsung created the Gluteus Maximus — a blue jean-wearing robotic posterior that simulates the stress caused by a 200-pound person sitting on a phone.
The robot subjects phones to the repeated indignity of being squashed by the hefty mom-jeans Terminator. Only after passing this test can a Samsung phone be certified to be strong enough to go on the market.

I guess that means Samsung phones aren’t meant for people over 200 pounds? 🙂

I’d be impressed if they could help make a phone half as tough as 3310.

I always wondered about that.
