If you spend any amount of internet searching for interesting facts about Star Wars and you will eventually come across this interesting tidbit: some of the asteroids in The Empire Strikes Back were potatoes, and one was a shoe. You may have had enough experience with the internet to question whether everything you see online is accurate. If so, you will attempt to confirm this rumor before repeating it.
There is no shortage of websites confirming this news. You will even find some visual evidence to support the notion, such as this example from The Star Wars Minute Wiki.

According to the rumors, George Lucas made so many demands of the special effects team that they got annoyed and threw a shoe into the Battle of Endor scene out of spite.
As the old adage warns us, “Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.” It turns out those are wise words for the potato/shoe asteroid legend. Thanks to advances in technology, we can take a closer look at the claim.
As for the potato rumor, there may be a grain of truth to it. Potatoes and asteroids do bear a bit of a resemblance to each other. Concerning the shoe legend, however, unless it happens to belong to the Fantastic Four’s Ben Grimm, it’s safe to say that myth is busted.
