Evil Preaches Tolerance, But Then…
Some truths don’t need much explanation. John Henry Newman said, “Evil preaches tolerance until it becomes dominant. From that point on, it seeks to silence the good.”
A century later, Paul Harvey said essentially the same thing in his essay, “If I Were the Devil.” They remind us that evil rarely arrives waving a banner announcing its intentions. It sidles in under the guise of tolerance, only to reveal its true aim once it feels secure—silencing those who dare to stand for what is right.
Sometimes the most powerful commentary is simply to let the warning stand on its own.
