If you are looking for a place to fill your water bottle, look no further than Lake Superior.  With 3,000,000,000,000,000 (3 quadrillion) gallons of water, the contents of Lake Superior could cover the land mass of North and South America to a depth of one foot (30 centimeters).

With a surface area of 31,700 square miles (82,000 square kilometers) and an average depth of 483 feet (147 meters), Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world and contains 10% of all of the planet’s fresh surface water. In fact, you could pour all of the contents of the other four Great Lakes into it and still have room for three more Lake Eries.

Despite all of the Lake’s water, it remains the cleanest and clearest of the Great Lakes. The average underwater visibility is 27 feet (8 meters). That clean, fresh water is also quite brisk; the average temperature of the water is 36°F (2°C).
