We are led to understand that the process of delivering a baby can be somewhat difficult. Fortunately, for expectant mothers everywhere, inventors George and Charlotte Blonsky have come to the rescue with a revolutionary method for inducing and facilitating labor.

The Blonskys received a patent (U.S. Patent number 3,216,423) for an “Apparatus for facilitating the birth of a child by centrifugal force.” The concept is strikingly similar to that of centrifugal force amusement park rides that spin passengers around at a high rate of speed.
In the Blonsky device, mothers are strapped into a bed at the edge of a spinning wheel. As the speed of rotation increases, so does the g-force. If all goes well, a baby will soon emerge.
Presumably, doctors and nurses are stationed around the spinning device with catchers’ mitts, ready to grab any infant who comes flying out of the swirling vortex.

sounds like it would have been a candidate for an Ig Nobel prize!
