There are pros and cons to public transportation, but it is good advice for everyone to consider all the costs before calling for a ride.
Kurt Smith was arrested in December 2014 by New Jersey State Police for filing a false police report in an effort to get a free ride to a convenience store.
Smith allegedly called the police to report a disorderly person at the hotel where he was staying. When the police showed up and found no disorderly person, Smith said that he was the one who made the call, that it had been a mistake, and since they were already there, would they mind driving him to a local convenience store?
Troopers were happy to give Mr. Smith a ride, but it was to a completely different destination than the one he had in mind.
