Get ready for a fun fact that will blow your socks off. The Moon is smaller than Australia.
Admittedly, we don’t know if this better qualifies as an Australia Fun Fact or a Moon Fun Fact, so perhaps it would have been better to lead with “Australia is wider than the Moon.” Either way, this is a pretty big deal.
The Moon measures about 3,400 km (2,113 miles) in diameter. Australia flexes its continental muscles with an east-to-west stretch of nearly 4,000 km (2,485 miles).
โSure, the Moon may have more surface area overall (being a whole sphere and all), but letโs be honestโthatโs still a pretty impressive stat for the Land Down Under.
Despite being smaller, the Moon still has to deal with discarded bags of astronaut poop and other stuff. You can read about that here.
