Stick Your Neck Out and Try a Hard-Boiled Ostrich Egg

If you are hungry for hard-boiled eggs, but your diet limits you to just one, you might want to try an ostrich egg. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait. It takes up to two hours to cook.

The massive eggs are the largest of any living bird, though they are actually the smallest eggs relative to the size of the adult bird. They average 15 cm (5.9 in) in length and, 13 cm (5.1 in) in width, weighing in at 1.4 kilograms (3.1 lb). Each egg contains the equivalent of 24 large chicken eggs — enough to make an omelette for 15.

Depending on your location, you may have to purchase your egg online. Fresh eggs range in price from $35 to $70.

You may wish to stock up on some ostrich eggs as an appropriate breakfast offering for any houseguests who are still hungry after feasting on the delicacy of stuffed camel.
