One of the favorite sons of the state of Kansas is former U.S. Senator Bob Dole. He is admired for his service to the country and for his brilliant sense of humor.
Dole gained a reputation for using his dry sense of humor to drive home a point. When speaking of his sometimes-strained relationship with President Richard Nixon, Dole observed, “President Nixon and I have much in common. We both grew up amidst rural privation. We both served in World War II. We both served in the House and Senate. Of course, there are some differences, as well. That’s why we call him President Nixon.”
