From 1991 to 1994, Dinosaurs appeared on the ABC television network. It featured anthropomorphic dinosaur puppets who satirized issues of modern life.
Some would suggest it was more than satire and may have been prophetic.
Consider, for example, the episode that aired on March 27, 1992, entitled “And the Winner Is…” The plot centers around a campaign to elect the chief elder for the dinosaurs. Neither candidate is particularly desirable. Their worst qualities are put on display during a televised debate that dissolves into chaos.
The moderator, Edward R. Hero, closes the debate with words that were funny back in 1992:
“What an appalling display. The voters of this nation are presented with a choice between a monstrous, bloodthirsty psychopath and a self-confessed braindead ignoramus. What will future generations think of us that we cannot present the public with better alternatives than these?”
What do you think? Satire or prophetic utterance?
