Brief Facts About the Shortest Presidential Term

shortest term as president Pedro Lascuráin Mexico less than one hour

Pedro Lascuráin held the highest governmental office in Mexico briefly. Very briefly. In fact, he holds the record for the shortest term in history as a nation’s president.

He was sworn in as Mexico’s 34th President on February 19, 1913. Less than one hour later, his term of office was over.

His administration was not without accomplishment, however. He successfully appointed Victoriano Huerta as Secretary of the Interior, thus making Huerta next in the line of succession to the presidency. Having accomplished this, Lascuráin resigned.

The former President went on to practice law and teach at a law school, apparently unchanged, despite his former greatness.
