The International Space Station (ISS) orbits the earth at a relative speed of 7.66 kilometers per second, allowing it to circle the earth in 90 minutes.
The 1988 song “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers contains the words, “But I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more.” The entire song is 3 minutes and 30 seconds in length.
An astronaut on the ISS who listens to that song will have traveled almost exactly 1,000 miles while that song is playing.
