When it comes to proofreading, who’s whose responsibilty responsibility is it to check for mispellings misspellings? Whoever has that task at the Reserve Bank of Australia, it would probably be a good idea to ask for some additional assistance.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) rolled out a new $50 banknote on February 15, 2018. The new bills featured Edith Cowan, the first female member of the Australian parliament.
As part of the currency’s security features, a quotation from Cowan’s first speech to parliament is printed in microscopic print: “It is a great responsibility to be the only woman here, and I want to emphasise the necessity which exists for other women being here.”
Well, that was in the intent, anyway. As printed, the word responsibility is missing the final “i” and shows up as responsibilty.
This mistake went unnoticed for six months, allowing 46 million of the misspelled notes to be printed and enter into circulation.
